iphone itouch idrool…

Now this piece of software looks like a real killer app for your iPhone or iPod Touch. One key feature is that it’s not limited to operating with a Mac. It’s basically a VNC viewer that runs on your handheld, so it will control the user interface on your Mac, PC, even Windows Media Center, Media Player and iTunes.
Somebody I know has an iPod Touch, and should try this program….

This is sad

I know we’ve talked about making a food composter. Maybe we ALL should. This is disturbing, knowing all of the places in the world that does not have access to even basic nutrition.

“You’d never know it if you saw what was ending up in your landfill. As it turns out, Americans waste an astounding amount of food — an estimated 27 percent of the food available for consumption, according to a government study — and it happens at the supermarket, in restaurants and cafeterias and in your very own kitchen. It works out to about a pound of food every day for every American.”

PSA: catalytic converter theft epidemic

Interesting article and news to keep your eye on. Pretty sad what some people will do for a little money.

“Forget the rims, and never mind the stereo. Modern thieves looking for a serious payoff are skipping the obvious old staples and crawling underneath your car in search of the real prize: the catalytic converter.”

irresponsible banks, gullible borrowers

All we hear these days is whining from reckless home borrowers and their banks.
But did you know that renters are 32 percent of American households? And that homes in foreclosure are less than 2 percent?
So why is Congress rushing to bailout high-flying borrowers and their lenders with our tax dollars?

I know that more than just myself are concerned with this government bailout of banks and borrowers. I’m no economist, but I found angryrenter.com had some very interesting information. It may be somewhat biased or extreme, but it makes its point clear and gets people talking and thinking.

GTA IV & NYC comparison shots

Though there are very few people left *cough* turboflat4 *cough* who haven’t joined in the fun of GTA IV, it is still neat to see some of these comparison shots from in-game versus the IRL NYC.

Enjoy!

Shipping container data centers

I know a few architects around the world are working on designing living spaces to use these over abundant shipping containers, but this is a neat concept as well. These things can be had fairly cheap ($1,500 or so, but possibly more as of late with the rising cost of steel) and this is yet another great idea to recycle. Shipping containers modified to be data centers.

another company that has utilized this trend is Freitag. Their office consists of shipping containers stacked on top of each other. The picture is below, and feel free to read about them and visit their site. Their bags are wonderful.

GTA IV v1.01

As some of you already know — dpixel8 and I have been playing GTA4 on ps3 just about every day since it’s release. Just thought it was interesting that rockstar has already put an update out for the game, just over a week after the game’s release. Sounds like somebody fucked up on testing doesn’t it? :)

There’s tons of info out there on the update, here’s one, which includes reports of not all freezes being take care of with the patch.

sheboygan, the tourist destination?

So, now that the City of Sheboygan has gained two, count them, TWO Wal-Mart Supercenters the area known as the Taylor Heights district is quickly deteriorating. After Wal-Mart’s departure, most of the small retail stores in the strip mall, including a Blockbuster Video closed up shop.
At the heart of the Taylor Heights district is the Memorial Mall, with (i’m guessing) about 60% store-front occupancy, and the old empty Wal-Mart store. Now that the two new Supercenters are up and running on opposite extreme ends of the city, this central Taylor Heights area is slowly becoming vacant.
The city council has hired a development company to do some research and come up with a “master plan” for this dying part of town. Only two meetings have been held so far (open to the public) but I am anxiously waiting to see what may become of this area. I thought for a while on my own, but couldn’t come up with any real good ideas that would benefit the city and/or county. The empty Wal-Mart store is HUGE. Very few businesses or retail stores could make use of that large of a building (especially in an area where the average household income is around $60k). I suppose it could be divided up, but then that’s just more store fronts to fill.
I’ve heard people say it all should be leveled and returned to green space or a nature walk of some sort, but that would be huge tax income for the city to lose.
Who has got the right answer to this one? Right now our draw is on the lakefront with Blue Harbor Resort and the Marina on the riverfront. The shopping goes to the far south side at Deer Trace (which part of that is in the Village of Kohler, and part is in the city of Sheboygan).

Comment back with your thoughts…

blu-ray sales down?

According to this article sales of Blu-Ray standalone players dropped 40% from January to February.
Another article states it may be a seasonal thing, or that the standards war itself has turned users off to next gen movie tech.
I think it may have more to do with the fact that now that there is only one true standard, people know that the price can only go down from here as more manufacturers start building players with cheaper components and higher production volumes. I’m sure most customers remember how DVD players went from $500 to $49.99 Wal-Mart specials in a matter of 24 months (didn’t look up that data, so don’t flame me if it’s wrong).

so simple, so awesome

The Core Cord Organizer

Who knew such a simple design could be so useful! I’ve gotta try one of these. I’m tired of wrapping my earbud cord around my media player just to have them unravel and tangle up in my pocket.
